Houwen Sporthorses BV is a family business established by Jos and Trudi Houwen
to share their passion for horses and render wide range of services.
Jos was born in a big family of farmers and have been taking care of horses since his childhood.
He was educated as an intensive care nurse. In addition he developed the skills necessary
to become a first-class horse trainer.
Trudi is also coming from a farmer’s family and was almost “born on a horse”.
Being a professional medical assistant, Trudi further became an all-round instructor
with a particular specialization in dressage.
Both Jos and Trudi Houwen have over 30 years of experience in:
- training young horses and riders in both jumping and dressage to participate
in various competitions from the national level to Grand Prix.
- breeding and running a stud farm;
- preparing stallions and mares for the horse test;
- advising in horse coupling and mare bloodlines, sale and mediation.
Famous horses trained by us:
- HBC Cantos: raised from a foal to the international achiever! Top jumping sire!
- Royal Bravour: international show jumper.
- Dutch Capitol: international show jumper.
- Ferrolan: international dressage stallion.
- Whitesnake: international show jumper.
- Warnike: 2nd KNHS champion. Now belongs to Eric Lamaze.
- Z Canta: finalist of WC Lanaken (among 5 year-old horses). Now belongs to Laura Kraut.
- Zjohn G: finalist of WC Lanaken (among 6 year-old horses).
- Alady Liberty: finalist of WC Lanaken (among 5 year-old horses).

- Fieke (daughter): Dressage rider, training young horses up to Grand Prix level.

We are internationally oriented and multilingual. Our working languages are English, German and otherwise via the interpreter.
What we offer:
We offer you exceptional equestrian facilities for the perfect onsite training of both riders and horses! We can provide you with accommodation and share our expertise in horses and equestrian skills. Staying with us you can get daily supervision by our professional team of all-round specialists. Both jumping and dressage horses are at your disposal.
We can provide you with a complete training as well as safe and secure accommodation facilities. Accommodation is available on our premises! We also give you various opportunities to participate in weekly competitions, concours and training games to gain even more experience. Our facilities are up-to-date and well equipped according to the modern standards. There are also internship opportunities in our company.
